Organising and arranging individual school portraits for 100's of students and many classes, while maintaining minimal disruption to the schools daily schedule is certainly no small feat. Which is why I work very closely with the schools organisers and remain flexible over the course to cater to the unexpected.
Chances are you have sourced and carried out school portraits previously over the years with other service providers. Usually schools stick to the same company to provide photography each year but I understand things can happen, whether it be the photographer is fully booked, unexpected sickness, bad experience from either the schools perspective or feedback from the parents, or the business is simply no longer trading. Whatever the reason thank you for considering myself and would love to discuss to see if we are a good fit for your school.
Every school is different and I am happy to discuss what has worked well in the past and work on improving what hasn't. I'm always happy to keep consistency from previous photoshoots, keeping to what the parents have come to expect previously such as backdrop colour or implement feedback you have received in the past to improve the service provided.
So how does it all work?
The main foundations usually remain the same. There are no costs or fees to the school. There are no hidden costs, I simply arrive on-site and set up in the area designated on the arranged day or days.
Working closely with the organisers and teachers we take the pupils portraits one by one, class by class. It is not uncommon for the school to request this is done over the course of a couple of days but every school is different so always happy to accommodate what will work best for minimum disruption.
Once the photos have been taken the school can get back to their day to day while I begin editing the photos and labelling child or parent names. These photos are then uploaded to an online gallery whereby each parent will have their own personalised, password protected online gallery. From there they can view their photos and purchase either digital or prints directly from the gallery itself eliminating the admin of collecting parents money or orders.
Ahead of time we would have already discussed the deadline for parents to get their orders in by. As this is usually done at the end of the year we usually carry out two cut off dates for print orders (digital orders are instant). One before Christmas and a second final cut off in the New Year. The store remains open and parents can log into their gallery at any point to place and order during this time.
We find this gives parents a nice option, those who wish to place an order and collect before Christmas can as they may be for Christmas presents etc. Plus the option to wait till Jan to place an order after Christmas.
Once either cut off date is reached I arrange the prints, keyrings, canvases and any other orders. These will then be carefully packaged with parents names clearly listed for easy distribution and collection from the school by yourselves.
The school will also receive an image of each student, sized and formatted to update their database.
What will it cost?
As mentioned previously there is no cost or fees to the school at all. I offer a very competitive commission from the sales which is paid to the school which I would be happy to discuss. I would also like to take this moment to talk about photography prices themselves in general and the parents. It is important to me that prices are fair, some prices for school portraits can be eye watering to say the least.
Especially in todays world it should never reach the point where parents cannot afford to purchase photos of their children. As a result I offer very competitive pricing for digital downloads and prints and would be happy to discuss in more detail.
My ultimate goal is to provide a service both the school and the parents are happy with.
Next Steps
If you would like to discuss more we would love to hear from you. As every school is different our service is not fixed and there is room for making changes or carrying it out in a manner you are used to.
It would also be great to arrange a day and time I can come down. Due to the nature of the photography images cannot be shared on the website so it would be good to show a portfolio of my work, some samples of the prints and products to check the quality etc.
I look forward to hearing from you and discussing your requirements. Best form of contact initially is using the contact form below. Many thanks.
Thank you for getting in touch.Your message has been received and we aim to respond to all messages within 24 hours.
Message regarding images on this page. Following on from our message at the top of this page we are unable to share previous images taken and the images used are for representation only. When discussing with schools we do have a sample pack containing print quality and also previous work to review which is part of our on site meeting to look through when deciding if we are a good fit for your photography requirements. We also have a digital version when discussions are taken place over the phone instead but please understand we can only share this link and password to persons within a school with a school email address. Thank you for you understanding.
